Ethan was bounding down the boat path today with Genevieve and the dogs had ran ahead. They both saw Shadow chasing a porcupine. Ethan bravely tried to grab Shadow so he did not get quilled, but in the process got quilled himself, and did not even notice it. Apparently Genevieve watched as the porcupine threw the quills into Ethan’s leg and foot and started to scream. Ethan was a trooper and mostly thought it was funny, or at least cool. The good news is that Ethan sacrificed himself so the dogs could be spared. From our past experience it would have been much worse if the dogs had stumbled on the porcupine first.

We kept the quills and Ethan is excited to write up a journal entry about the encounter.
